PBIS

What is PBIS?
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidenced-based three-tiered framework that is committed to addressing student behavior. When it is implemented well, data shows improved social and academic outcomes, reduction in exclusionary discipline practices, and school personnel feel more effective.
Essentially, Schilling staff set expectations and reinforce positive behavioral expectations in the same way that academic curriculum is taught. Time is spent to nurture student prosocial skills as a learner and a community member. This is achieved through teaching, modeling, practicing, and reinforcing school rules. Then, reteaching (in a different way), pre-correction/prompting, reinforcing again to strengthen these skills.
Here at Schilling Elementary, students, staff, and involved community members are held to the same expectations to model and engage in our three school rules:
-
Be Safe
-
Be Responsible
-
Respectful
When students follow and strive to achieve these expectations, Schilling staff, in conjunction with the community, highlight their success! Celebrations, acknowledgement, and incentives include, but not limited to: Class Dojo points, Schilling Stars, Schilling PBIS Store, Student of the month, and SO much MORE!
Every student is unique and has their own journey to meet their goals. Schilling has programs in place to support student social and academic achievement, when students are not responding to Tier 1 supports. Programs include but not limited to Lunch Bunch, Check-In/Check-Out, Mentor Program, and more!
